CuNi44 Resistance Wire
The workhorse of the copper-nickel resistance family: high resistivity for a copper alloy, good corrosion resistance, and it solders easily — which is…
A graded series rather than a single alloy — resistivity from roughly 0.03 to 0.50 µΩ·m, so the value can be chosen instead of worked around.
| Grade | Nominal Ni | Resistivity, 20 °C | Typical use |
|---|---|---|---|
| NC003 / CuNi3 | ≈ 3 % | ≈ 0.05 µΩ·m | Low-resistance conductors |
| NC012 / CuNi10 | ≈ 10 % | ≈ 0.15 µΩ·m | Instrument leads |
| NC025 / CuNi23 | ≈ 23 % | ≈ 0.30 µΩ·m | Braking and load resistors |
| NC050 / CuNi44 | ≈ 44 % | ≈ 0.49 µΩ·m | Shunts, heating cable |
The point of a graded series is that a designer can pick the resistance instead of accepting whatever one alloy gives him. Between the low-nickel and high-nickel ends the resistivity moves by an order of magnitude, while workability and solderability stay reasonable throughout.
The table above is for selection. Exact resistivity for a given grade is confirmed at quotation against the standard we are producing to, and is stated on the inspection report.
