Type K Thermocouple Wire
The most widely used base-metal thermocouple. Positive leg NiCr (KP), negative leg NiSi (KN). We draw both legs from the same melt and ship them toget…
Four base-metal types, one discipline: both legs from the same melt, shipped together, with the measured resistance per metre on the spool label.
| Type | Positive leg | Negative leg | EMF at 500 °C | Useful range |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| K | NiCr10 (KP) | NiSi (KN) | ≈ 20.64 mV | −200 to 1200 °C |
| E | NiCr10 | Constantan | ≈ 37.01 mV | −200 to 900 °C |
| J | Iron | Constantan | ≈ 27.39 mV | 0 to 750 °C |
| T | Copper | Constantan | ≈ 20.87 mV (at 400 °C) | −200 to 400 °C |
A thermocouple is only as good as the homogeneity of its two legs. If positive and negative come from different melts, the pair develops a parasitic EMF wherever it crosses a temperature gradient — and the controller has no way of knowing it is being told the wrong number. Drawing both legs from the same melt, and shipping them together, removes that variable at the source.

The finest gauge we draw in routine production. Every spool leaves with a label recording the measured resistance per metre — 5 174 Ω/m on the 0.018 mm NiCr20AlSi spool shown on our home page, dated and signed by the checker. It is an identification label, not a certificate; measured values are confirmed on the inspection report.

The highest EMF output of the base-metal thermocouples — roughly 68 µV/K — which makes it the practical choice when the readout has limited resolution…
Iron positive leg, constantan negative. Cheap, sensitive, and widely used in older plant and in equipment built to legacy drawings — but the iron leg …
Copper positive, constantan negative. The most stable of the base-metal types at low temperature, and the usual choice for cryogenic work, cold-chain …
